New Racing Documentary ‘Born To Rein’ Premieres This Week

“Born To Rein,” a new horse racing documentary, will premiere in three Nebraska cities this spring, and you can join “Born To Rein” co-producers Jody L. Lamp and Melody Dobson for the launch of their film. The “Triple Crown Series” launch of the documentary includes a screening preceding each race that makes up Thoroughbred horse racing’s Triple Crown – the Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes, and Belmont Stakes.

Nebraska might seem an unlikely location for horse racing greatness, but three Hall of Fame Thoroughbred trainers have hailed from the state: John Nerud of Minatare and father-and-son trainers Marion and Jack Van Berg of Columbus. The “Born To Rein” documentary film honors their lives and careers and examines how their horsemanship continues to impact and influence the national Thoroughbred industry today.

The timing of the documentary coincides with 100th anniversary of America’s first Triple Crown winner, Sir Barton, who after retiring from racing also spent time in Nebraska as a U.S. Army Remount Service stallion at Fort Robinson near Crawford.

“Born To Rein” will premiere in three Nebraska cities and venues this spring, preceding the Triple Crown races, and will make a national screening debut in summer racing hotspot Saratoga Springs, N.Y., in August. Full details are below (all times local).
